ATHLETICS GROUNDSKEEPER
The College of Saint Rose is a dynamic, comprehensive college of more than 5,000 students. Located in the heart of New York State’s Capital District, the College is an independent, coeducational institution.
We are seeking an experienced Athletics field Groundskeeper who will be responsible for maintaining and preparing athletic fields and the associated facility lawns/grounds at our NEW 15 acre Plumeri Sports Complex.
Responsibilities include:
• Operate riding mowers, push mowers, light duty vehicles, blowers, sweeper, edger, paint spraying equipment, and line trimmers, as well as other equipment required for maintenance of natural and synthetic turf areas.
• Mow, edge, trim and rake fields; plant, cultivate and water grass and plants; dispense weed killing chemicals.
• Rake, sweep, blow and pick up clippings, paper, trash from athletic fields and campus grounds.
• Prepare fields by raking, dragging, rolling, chalking fields according to sports specific regulations, setting bases and goals, etc. and inspecting fields for proper safety.
• Groom, drag brush, rake, sweep, aerate, topdress rubber infill, inspect, clean, treat, etc. synthetic turf playing field as required
• Oversee the application of fertilizer/herbicides/pesticides by contractors and/or apply fertilizer/herbicides/pesticides as directed by management.
• Oversee access to athletic facilities.
• Complete all snow removal tasks at the Plumeri Sports Complex, as well as other campus areas as assigned.
The ideal candidate will possess the following background:
• High School Diploma; Associates Degree in Plant Science, Turfgrass management, or related horticultural coursework is preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years experience maintaining and supporting athletic fields, both synthetic and natural turf.
• Knowledge of NCAA sports field dimensions and standards
• Ability to operate large motorized equipment and smaller power tools related to grounds and athletic field maintenance.
• Knowledge of the safety standards and precautions pertaining to the use of tools and equipment related to grounds maintenance.
• Knowledge of the safety standards and precautions pertaining to frequent exposure to hazardous chemicals.
• Must be able to read instructions and safety rules, write sentences, and follow instructions.
• Ability to maintain good interpersonal relations both inside and external to the College.
• Computer literacy at the intermediate level to include Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
• Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
• Must be able to lift a maximum of 70 lbs. and frequently lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to walk, stoop, bend, crouch, sit, kneel, climb, and crawl
• Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
• A valid NYS driver’s license is required, as well as the ability to meet the standards established for authorized drivers by the College of Saint Rose.
• A valid certified pesticide applications license is preferred.
